ABOUT

What made me do it?!

Nice to meet you! I’m Victoria Phipps, host of the Mum Means Business podcast.

Having emerged from two maternity leaves and a house build during the pandemic, I found the blended career I had known and loved simply wasn’t going to work in the same way.

I’d been a waitress, an architectural assistant, an general dog’s body in the family business, a charity co-founder and a wedding photographer. But none of those things made sense any more.

It was time to start again. Time to pivot and find something that filled me with a sense of reward and paid the bills at the same time.

But it wasn’t that easy! My identity as I knew it had crashed and burned when I became a Mum. My world had changed and I needed to change with it.

So I flailed around like a fish out of water, wading through the mess of ideas in my head. I vomited all over social media trying to find a new path and finally came to rest as an analogue family and motherhood photographer.

I’ve spent the past year exploring all aspects of motherhood in photographs, whilst hearing individual stories from marvellous Mums about their own journey with work, purpose and identity.

So I decided to dig a little deeper and explore what motivates devoted Mothers to pursue entrepreneurship when life is at its most hectic.

I wanted to shine a light on Mums at the start of their business journey, in the messy middle and those who have come out the other side to get their take on managing motherhood, ambition and their drive to make a positive impact in this world.
