Welcome to the very first episode of Mum Means Business – the podcast for women juggling pitches and play dates.

Why I Started the Mum Means Business Podcast

In this trailer, I’m sharing why I’ve launched this podcast. Spoiler alert: I hit record just after putting the dishwasher on – not ideal – and I left it in because you know what, I didn’t have time to re-record.

The Juggle Is Real: Business, Babies & Everything in Between

That’s the reality for so many Mums in business trying to juggle all the things, so I figure you would relate! If you’re in the same boat, you’ll know that life can feel like a hell of a juggle.

But juggle we do – because we’re chasing a life filled with passion, purpose and possibility. In 2009 I began my journey as a freelance photographer and also co-founded a charity for WW2 veterans, which I ran with my father for the best part of 15 years. Both enterprises have given me a huge wealth of experience and they shaped my identity, until I became a Mum and everything shifted!

In this episode, I talk about:
✨ The unique perspective mothers bring to entrepreneurship
✨ Why so many of us are building businesses during the busiest season of life
✨ The power of community and connection
✨ What to expect from future episodes

Let’s Do This Together: A Podcast for “Mumpreneurs”

This podcast is here to remind you that you’re not alone. It’s a space we can come together to celebrate the incredible effort behind our business dreams, our parenting wins and all the chaos in between!

Whether you’re driving to nursery, folding laundry or hiding in the loo for five minutes of peace – I’m so glad you’re here. Let’s do this together!

About The Host:

I’m Victoria Phipps – a Mum of two, analogue family photographer, charity co-founder, marketing person and now podcaster! My career has wandered all over the place and is becoming a bit of a complex tapestry as I head into this middle phase of life, but I can honestly say I’ve loved every minute of it so far.

I was raised by a nurturing Mother and an entrepreneurial Father and have inherited traits from both, so the tension between ambition and motherhood is one I grapple with on a daily basis! I’m fascinated to hear the stories of other women on a similar path, who are striving to build thriving businesses whilst being present for their children. It’s a tough juggle, but I hope the conversations shared on this podcast help Mums in business feel less alone and inspired to keep going in pursuit of their dreams!

Why am I starting this podcast? That is a big question. Here we go. I have put the dishwasher on just before pressing record. my God, Hang on.

cue dripping noises. Such a pro. Okay. As moms, we are already juggling so much, being a mom is hard and being an entrepreneur or a business owner is really hard too. So why are so many of us trying to do both of those things at the same time? What’s making us do it?

As moms, we are already juggling so much from the mental load of motherhood, managing the household and the family calendar, trying to squeeze in bit of exercise and drink our tea before it gets cold, all whilst taking steps every day in our business to make our big dream come true. We don’t need to add running a business into the mix, but we’re doing it to have a life filled with passion and purpose and yes, profit.

To build something from nothing, to inspire our own children and show them what’s possible when you put in the work, to uplift our community, whether that’s a digital community or our own neighborhood, to bring something positive forth into the world, something meaningful, something full of spirit and hope and joy. Mothers have an incredible perspective on life. Raising children means that we are hardwired to think of the future.

So we are naturally building businesses with impact and longevity in mind. We are not looking to turn a quick buck. We’re building legacies.

We’re trying to build generational wealth, not just for ourselves and our families, but for the people who are helping us along the way. to charities, caring for family members, answering emails once the kids have gone to bed, and then at the weekend we’re volunteering our time at the school fates. There are no two ways about it. This is an incredible effort from the most time poor demographic, and it cannot be celebrated enough in my book.

I guess the other reason I’m starting this podcast is that I really like talking. I’ve always loved connecting with people through conversation

And there is nothing quite like a good chat with another mom in business who just gets it. Moms need mom friends and entrepreneurs need entrepreneur friends. So I really hope this podcast will be the beginning of a new community that enriches this journey for women crazy enough to tackle motherhood and entrepreneurship at once. The moms I’ll be interviewing are so inspiring and I want to hear all their stories because I’m curious, some would say nosy.

about other people’s, in inverted commas, mumpreneur experience. At the time of recording, my girls are four and two, so I’m relatively early on into parenthood, and whilst I might be a pro-talker, I know I still have a lot to learn in business. And what a thing to record these frank, honest, funny mum-to-mum conversations and put them out into the world for our children to look back on in years to come and perhaps think, there she is, that was my mum, and she was killing it.

So I hope you’ll stick around and eavesdrop on my chats with other moms at every stage of their business journey. And if you love it, please subscribe, rate and review the podcast because we want as many moms as possible to find us and join in the conversation. If you have any thoughts, questions, love letters, or even hate mail, please send them my way. I am going to read every single message.

Until next time, I’m wishing you only good things in life and business and I will speak to you soon.
